Jisbon is a fanbase-coined shipper term for the possibility of a romantic relationship between CBI consultant Patrick Jane and team leader Teresa Lisbon on The Mentalist. It is a minor, but popular, element of the show.
Even though it is highly doubtful that Jane will commit to another relationship until he makes peace with his unwitting part in his wife's terrible death, his flirtatious ways and fond feelings toward Lisbon are undeniable. The extent of Jane's affection toward Lisbon was revealed Red John's Footsteps at the end of the first season: Only minutes after emphatically stating that he would not mind getting killed if it meant catching Red John, Jane shot and killed the only person who could lead him to Red John in order to save Lisbon's life.
In the season 4 finale, Jane's feelings for Lisbon are more obvious than ever. Before he shoots her, he hugs her and tells her that he loves her. Later it is revealed that they only faked her death.
Later, Lisbon asks him what he meant with what he said before he shot her but he claims not to remember what he said. This shows that Lisbon also feels something for Jane because she risks bringing it up in conversation, which could potentially have made things very awkward between them, because she cares that much about the answer.
At the end of the episode, Jane lies on the ground and rests. Lisbon joins him. When she asks if he's okay, he says he's fine and takes her hand.
In The Crimson Ticket, Lorelei Martins says the reason Jane works for the CBI is that he wants to be close to Lisbon, stating "you're a little bit in love with her".
Almost the same sentence is used again towards Lisbon in Red John's Rules, when alleged psychic Sean Barlow says to her that she was "lying in bed, thinking about Patrick. You're a little in love with him, eh?".
Towards the end of season 6, Lisbon is debating taking a job offer in Washington DC and move there together with her boyfriend Marcus Pike. Jane, who is now faced with losing her in his daily life, realizes that he doesn't want her to leave. In the final episode of season 6 he admits his feelings to her when she is about to fly out to Washington. She first tells him to leave, but later joins him again, telling him she feels the same way.
The season concludes with their first kiss.
In the series finale, White Orchids, Jane and Lisbon get married, becoming husband and wife on the property Jane bought to build their house on. They are expecting a baby together, as she tells Jane after the wedding that she is pregnant with their first child.
- Bruno Heller, creator of The Mentalist, has admitted that there is chemistry between Jane and Lisbon, and that it is a small but possible way to take the show.
- Bruno Heller said that they will realize they have feelings for each other in season 6 and then they will start acting on those feelings.
