Recap[]

Jane makes a small conversation with Lisbon about the crime scene in the valley having been previously a seabed of a prehistoric ocean while walking towards where Cho and a police officer are standing over the body. Lisbon asks Cho for an update from the scene, where the latter informs them that the victim is identified as Ryan D'Stefano by license and registration. Cho then talks about how his wallet is still here with no money stolen, the gas tank emptied while the ignition to the car is still on, and how the victim died from a gunshot at close range from behind. Jane examines the scene and perceives that there were two people in the car after seeing one diet and one regular soda. Basing on Ryan's corpse lying on the passenger's side of his car, Jane surmises that the passenger is missing and is possibly their suspect.

With a casino chip found in his pocket, the team tracked its origin from the Golden Fox Casino. They then meet the head of security, Dantes Holmes, and learned about how Ryan was a security guard at the casino for six weeks but not for the previous six months. But Lisbon tells him that Ryan was a criminal and was convicted of burglary and armed robbery, and she was surprised that he was hired despite that. But the manager tells them that, his criminal record was the only reason for firing him. He says that once he did a background check, and found out about Ryan; he fired him. He also tells them that Ryan kept to himself and hence he is not aware of anyone who would try to harm him.

In the meanwhile, Jane notices a poster of a magician named Jack Hellion. Jane slips away to watch Jack's performance while Holmes takes Cho and Lisbon to his office. In the middle of Jack's performance, Jane tries to distract the magician from the side of the audience by continuously asking for his 50 bucks. After bungling his latest magic trick, Jack got off the stage and recognized Jane amongst his viewers as soon as he found him. Jane tells Jack that he is losing his touch for failing a simple pass despite his distractions, to which the latter responded by punching Jane in his nose for ruining his act. Jane then responded it was nice to see him too.

The two then moved to Jack's dressing room where the two friends decided to talk and catch up about their lives since they last saw each other 16 years ago. After hearing Jack talk about his recent work, Jane asked what happened to him since he remembered the stage magician saying he was aiming for the top long ago. Jack then tells Jane that he got busted for doing drugs and that messed his bookings; and now he is working his way back up. Jack is shocked to have learned that Jane is working with the CBI, and is completely unaware of Jane's tragic circumstances that lead to this (to which the consultant brushes it aside as 'a long story'). Jane then questions him about Ryan and showed him a photo to see his reaction, but Jack does not know anything about him.

Back at the office, the team then discussed about Ryan's history. After losing his job six months prior, Ryan fell completely off the grid. Grace tells the team that his parole officer told her that, Ryan got into a scuffle with an unknown man at the bar. Rigsbythen informs about Nicky Shaw, the Casino owner, to have possible ties with the mafia and that he could be a possible lead for this case. After assigning the three of their tasks, Lisbon queries Jane about his disinterest in the case. Jane tells her that either Ryan was a hardened criminal or largely misunderstood; also, that the casino could be connected to the mafia. Lisbon asked what he thinks about it, to which Jane replied that he's going to eat.

Grace visits the bar where Ryan previously had a scuffle and questions the bartender about him. The bartender replied that Ryan was a good guy despite being hot-headed and that the victim used to keep telling them about getting back the casino for firing him. Meanwhile, Lisbon called Jane to check if he finished eating and asked him to check up with Dante Holmes again. Jane is already with Holmes, however, along with the owner Nicky Shaw. Jane questions Holmes about the fight between him and Ryan, where he learned Ryan was angry at him for firing him and that he was also drunk. Shaw tells Jane that he did not know about the fight and Jane finds it leery that he doesn't mind Holmes withholding that information from him.

Back at CBI headquarters, Rigsby updates Lisbon that the passenger with Ryan was a girl named Holly Danvers. Lisbon asks him and Cho to retrieve her, but to be careful as she is a possible suspect. The pair reached the address of a caravan site, but the landlady of the tells them that Holly ran away with a guy couple days ago, whom she identifies to be Ryan. Rigsby and Cho wanted to talk to her roommate and also look around the trailer. Noticing that no one answered inside the trailer, the agents got the landlord to open it and discovered Shelly, Holly's roommate, dead inside.

At the office, Cho tells Lisbon that ever since Holly got out of prison, records show that she stayed clean and went regularly for counseling and she also got a job as a waitress at the same bar where the scuffle took place. Grace goes back to the bar to dig deeper. Meanwhile, Jane is in Jack’s dressing room once again. He congratulates Trish, his stage partner, and Jack for their performance. He also meets Skitty and Vincent, two young magicians Jack is mentoring. He takes their leave but decides to hang around in the casino. A while later, he sees Skitty and Vincent exiting out onto the casino floor, and Jane finds their body language to be dubious. A moment Holmes walks out of the secured area. Jack accompanies the two guys to the parking lot and Jane follows him.

He tells Jack that he knows that Jack was planning to rob the casino. Jane tells him that he had figured it out the moment when he faltered the first time during the act, how he lied about not knowing the victim, and how his ex-convict friends did a good job of casing the joint. Asking why Jack is doing this, Jane reads his reactions and concludes that Holly Danvers is his girlfriend and that she is kidnapped and being used as a hostage. Jack then tells Jane that it is impossible to rob the casino and that the cops cannot be involved. Understanding that he cannot call his team for help, Jane decides to help rob the casino for Jack.

After Jack shows Jane Holly’s video that was sent to him, the magician tells him that he has no idea who the kidnapper is though the person who is doing all of this also knows how the casino works such as how the casino vault is at its fullest on the first of the month. Jack also mentions that not even Trish, Skitty and Vincent know about the kidnapping despite being in on the job, to which Jane ended their discussion and stated he will meet with Jack's crew tomorrow. Meanwhile, Rigsby tells Cho that Jack lied about not knowing Ryan after finding an online article of Ryan had helped Jack to perform one of his tricks. Rigsy notices the bouquet of roses on Cho's desk and asked what they're for, to which Cho says that the flowers are for Summer Edgecombe. After Cho leaves, Rigsby could not help but expressed his surprise in this turn of Cho's relationship.

The next day, Jane drafts a plan and got to meet with the members of Jack's crew. The group then educates Jane about the vault and the security system, with the main problem being that the guards come in to check the vault every 5 to 6 minutes and that it is going to take Jack more than 5 minutes to crack the vault. After learning the facts, Jane tells them that he will be the one to lead the job and that they will pull it off tonight.

Jane returns back to the office where Lisbon and the team update him with their findings. The team informs him of Jack being a possible suspect due to his relationship with Holly and that they both killed Ryan together. But Jane tells them that they are way off the mark, to which Lisbon responded that he knows the right story. Jane confirms it and has a way to close the case. Grace asks for Jane to share, but the latter replied how the situation is tricky and with a life involved. Jane then proposes a 'crazy idea' and ask for the team to trust him on it, much to the team's anxiety with another one of Jane's schemes. However, Lisbon then asks what Jane's plan is.

Back at the casino, Jane and Jack rejoin with the crew before the magic show is about to begin. Jane then informs them that the police have returned to the casino. Vincent asks if they should call it off, but Jane tells them that they are there for a murder investigation and not a robbery, so they do not need to worry about them as they carry on with the plan.

Lisbon, Cho and Rigsby attended Jack's show and quietly talked about how they are about to be involved in a robbery. Jack then performs an act wherein he needs to have a black hood over his face and in the middle of the act he and Vincent (dressed in Jack's spare costume) switch places. Jack goes off to rob the vault while Vincent is on stage. Due to the similar physical appearance and wearing a hood, nobody notices the difference.

Meanwhile, Jane introduces Grace to Holmes. Grace occupies Holmes in asking some questions while Jane slips and steals the vault room key from his pocket. Jane then meets up with Jack and Skiddy and reached into the vault room. As Skiddy prepares a reflector sheet and Jane was about to leave, Jack's hands begin to shake. Jack tells them that he cannot do it as he is not a criminal. Jane steps in and tells Skiddy to place the key back in Holmes' pocket.

Jane then helps to ease Jack's tension via hypnotism so that he can proceed with opening the vault. Soon after Skiddy bumps into Holmes and returns the key into his pocket, the security guard returns to his routine and goes to check inside the vault room. After seeing nothing out of the ordinary, Holmes leaves. Jane and Jack then emerged from underneath the table inside the vault room, having covered the legs of the table with reflector sheets used in one of Jack's shows. Skiddy arrives as they opened the vault and proceed to take out the money while Jack returns to the stage and switch places with Vincent.

The heist team later meets in the parking lot where they stored the magic box containing the cash inside the van. Vincent tells them that he and Skiddy will follow behind Jane and Jack by car and meet up on a route. Jane warns the pair that CBI will be coming in soon, and hugs both of them before he leaves in the van with Jack. Soon as Vincent tries to find his car keys, he realized Jane stolen them after hugging him. Then Cho arrives behind them and arrests them.

Jane and Jack reach the place where the kidnapper asks them to get the money. Just then a car arrives and Trish, Jack’s stage partner, steps out with Holly. Jane then shows Trish the box in the back of the van, to which Jack tells her the money is inside. Trish tells the three of them to line up, with Jane trying to convince her not to shoot them. Trish replies that it is much cleaner to kill those who could identify her before she takes the money to Mexico. However, the box turns out to be a ruse as Lisbon kicks open from inside the box where the money was supposedly in and shouts at Trish to drop the gun.

After arresting her and being interviewed by Grace at the office, Trish reveals that Ryan was with her in the beginning and gave her the idea to rob the casino due to his rants about wanting to get even with the casino. Ryan kidnapped Holly and killed her roommate to silence her, but Trish killed him as she could not trust him, even claiming he was laughing about killing the roommate and having no moral compass. Grace countered Trish's remarks by stating she was about to kill three innocent people. Trish added she would feel guilty about it since that is different from killing Ryan, to which Grace replied 'You're nuts, lady.'

Later on, Jack and Holly thanks Jane and Lisbon for helping them out. Jane then jokingly continues asking Jack for his 50 bucks, to which the two men began a playful argument with each other that prompted Lisbon to invite Holly out for coffee as this could take a while. Holly mentions how she never seen this side of Jack before, to which Lisbon remarked how Jane has that effect with people.
