Ruth appears in Red Sky in the Morning. She murdered Marley Sparrow and along with Dylan, imitated Red John signatures after killing her, with the exception being that the murder was filmed and later posted online. A fan of slasher movies along with Dylan, they both seemed to develop a twisted obsession to make a perfect, realistic horror film.
She and Dylan later kidnap Wesley Blankfein's mother to force him to continue killing, so they can keep filming more murders.
They blackmail Wesley to kill Patrick Jane, who was investigating the case independently. Red John himself appears, shoots Ruth and Dylan, the latter dying instantly.
Ruth has her throat slit by Red John because in his words, "[he] can't tolerate a cheap imitation of [his] work".
