Summer Edgecombe, who first appeared as a prostitute, was a CBI informant recruited by Cho as a confidential informant in season 4. Summer is beautiful, gutsy and manipulative with a child-like sweetness. In the episode At First Blush, Cho admits to having feelings for Summer and a romance develops. This relationship is strained after Summer's reckless behavior nearly gets her killed by a suspect during a sting. After she steals drugs from one of her contacts, a drug dealer, he beats her. Cho seeks out the dealer and beats him. After a heated argument with Cho about her use of drugs, she takes his advice to leave the state and start over, thus ending their relationship.
In the season five episode, Panama Red, a pregnant Summer returns to Sacramento and becomes a suspect in a counterfeiting operation. Summer tells Cho she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. With Cho's help, (he manipulates the main suspect and the Assistant D.A., Ardiles) charges against her are dropped and she goes free. This costs Cho the confidence of the Gangs unit leader who was the arresting officer in Summer's case. As it turns out, Summer was in town with her fiancé, a man named Marshal who knows nothing of her past. At the end of the episode, she introduces Cho to her fiancé and they depart to get married.
